The product is fine with just the PS/2 connector which is supplied, and I personally have been using my X-Arcade controller for around 4 years this way. The USB connector simply adds the flexibility to connect the X-Arcade to a Mac computer or a PC where it is preferable to use a USB port instead of the PS/2 port (Eg. When using with some Wireless Keyboards). Additionally by using one PS/2 Connected X-Arcade Controller and one USB PS/2 Connected X-Arcade Controller, it is possible to connect two Dual X-Arcade controllers to a PC at the same time, making it ideal for 4-Player Arcade games like Gauntlet & Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
